This is me, the first man from Earth to grow vegetables on Mars. Anyone want to create a new history with me?
My name is Chen and I am the creator behind Yellowhums. When I was a kid, my mom always encouraged my sisters and I to look for passions outside of school and I picked painting. I won my first award by re-creating Van Gogh’s famous piece, Starry Night when I was 14. I never pursued art as a career, but it has always been a part of my life. It’s all about being creative. In my spare time, I like to explore artistic expressions with different media.
In 2016, I left San Francisco and moved to the Central Valley to start a ranch life with my partner. Moving to the country from the city opened the door for me to start enjoying life at a slower pace. We have beautiful walnut and almond trees all around us – in fact, the largest walnut tree in California is right across the street and was planted in 1904! Each day I get to make non-human friends – hummingbirds, butterflies, squirrels, owls, frogs, and yes, occasionally, snakes. I built a garden next to the house and started growing some vegetables and flowers. I spend more time in the yard than on Netflix and Hulu these days.
In late 2019, I decided to leave my job in tech for 6 years and pursue an art journey with resin and dried flowers. I love sharing ideas with people, so we can come together and appreciate all aspects of our lives with more creativity! I want to thank you all for visiting my site and I hope it can bring an abundance of happiness to your life.
So, back to the photo on the top: if I didn’t tell you that it was taken at the top of Haleakalã in Maui, where do think it could be? Be creative and let me know. 🙂
